"Only a woman is entitled to take maternity leave, thus only a woman can be dismissed in circumstances where her employers think she had lost the right to return to work after taking maternity leave. A man could not be treated in the same way. Therefore the Respondents directly discriminated against the Appellant on the grounds of sex contrary toSection 1(1) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 ."
