[1]APPEARANCES For the Appellants MR DAVID WICKS (of Counsel) Instructed by: Mr A Lester Director of Legal Services John Lewis Plc 171 Victoria Street London SW1E 5NN MR JUSTICE CHARLES : This is an appeal which comes before us today by way of preliminary hearing. The parties are John Lewis Plc and a Mrs Coyne. John Lewis appeal against a decision of the Employment Tribunal which was sent to the parties on 15 March 1999. Their function today is to show us that they have a reasonably arguable point of law.[2]We accept that they have reasonably arguable points of law. The less we say about the case, at this stage, the better.[3]Having reached that conclusion we direct that this appeal will proceed to a full hearing on the grounds set out in the Notice of Appeal. We think it should be Category B and we will give it a time estimate of a day.
