"(1) For the purposes of sections 46 and 47 an employee is suspended on maternity grounds where, in consequence of- (a) any requirement imposed by or under any relevant provisions of any enactment or of any instrument made under any enactment, or (b) any recommendation in any relevant provision of a code of practice issued or approved under section 16 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974,
"(1) Reference in this Act to the affording by any person of access to benefits, facilities or services are not limited to benefits, facilities or services provided by that person himself, but include any means by which it is in that person's power to facilitate access to the benefits, facilities or services provided by any other person (the "actual provider")."
" (2) It is unlawful for a person, the case of a woman employed by him at an establishment in Great Britain, to discriminate against her- (a) in the way he affords her access to opportunities for promotion, transfer or training, or any other benefits, facilities or services, or by refusing or deliberately omitting to afford her access to them,"
"(1) Subject to subsection (2), an employee's maternity leave period commences with- (a) the date which, in accordance with section 36, she notifies to her employer as the date on which she intends her period of absence from work in exercise of her right to maternity leave to commence,"
