JUDGMENT
The Claimants, Oleksandra Safoniuk and Anna Kovalchuk, attended the hearing today by video link, accompanied by their Counsel, Mrs Charlotte Hadfield, and a friend. A Ukrainian language interpreter, Ms Oksana Ivansova, was also in attendance. The Respondent, The Amherst Inn Ltd, did not attend or arrange any representation. Having heard the submissions of the Claimants' Counsel and considering all the evidence, I find that:[1]The claim for unlawful deduction from wages by Oleksandra Safoniuk is allowed. It is declared that the Respondent made unlawful deductions from the wages properly due to Miss Safoniuk totalling £1,428.98 gross.[2]The claim for unlawful deduction from wages by Anna Kovalchuk is allowed. It is declared that the Respondent made unlawful deductions from the wages properly due to Miss Kovalchuk totalling £1,158.27 gross.[3]The Respondent must pay the sum of £1,428.98 to Miss Safoniuk within 14 days of the date on which this Judgment is issued.[4]The Respondent must pay the sum of £1,158.27 to Miss Kovalchuk within 14 days of the date on which this Judgment is issued.[5]Each Claimant shall account to HMRC for any income tax, national insurance contributions or other statutory deductions properly due upon receipt of payment from the Respondent.
